This is a high school class and expectations are high. A’s aren’t gifted they are earned! However, even students who feel they may not be “artists” may excel in class provided they meet the following expectations:
- Excellent attendance, working bell to bell
- Constantly seeking ways to improve work
- Keeps materials organized, assists in keeping class space clean
- All assignments are turned in on time and in the proper manner
- Participates positively in critiques and class discussions
- Promptly completes do now assignments
- Diligently takes notes, and studies art vocabulary and concepts
- Takes advantage of extra credit opportunities
Your overall grade in this class will be determined by your effort and your ability!
Marking period grades will be determined as follows…
Portfolio: 50%
A portfolio including all completed artworks and reflection sheets will be used to determine your success at meeting the particular criteria of a lesson. You will be expected to complete a reflection sheet at the end of each class project to be turned in with your work. Reflection sheets will be 10pts of your project grade. Ample class time will be given to complete projects, if you feel you are falling behind it is your responsibility to attend extra help Before the project is due. Late projects will lose 10pts per day, some projects cannot be made up. Your portfolio grade will be an average of your project grades.
Notebook/Homework/Quizzes: 25%
You will need a three ring binder to keep class notes, handouts, do now assignments, and homework assignments, as well as any personal contributions (sketches, journal, etc.)
Each homework assignment will be graded. Late homework will lose 10 points the first day late. Homework turned in after that may earn up to half credit.
Participation: 25%
Your participation grade will be an assessment of your overall class participation, preparedness, and attitude.
All students are expected to assist in keeping the studio environment in working by participating in set up and clean up of materials.
Rules and Expectations
You must be to class on time. If you are late – even for a moment – it is expected that you will be after school for 15 minutes of detention. If you cannot be there, you must let me know at the end of class and detention will be served the next morning at 7:15am.
If you are absent for any reason it is your responsibility to find out what happened in class, what homework or supplies may be due the next day etc. Being absent is not an excuse for being unprepared.
It is expected that you will follow all school rules. No hats, cell phones, ipods, etc. There is no food in the classroom and beverages are not permitted open in class.
Book-bags, jackets, and other personal belongings must be placed on the designated table upon entering the room. Only art materials may be brought to your desk to ensure everyone has enough room to work.
Passes to the bathroom will not be given during the first or last 5-10 minutes of class during instruction and clean-up. Only one person will be given a pass out of the room at any time.
All work must be turned in on time and in the proper manner. Work not turned in by the end of the period is late. Some work cannot be made up; others may be turned in with a 10-point per day penalty. If your work is submitted improperly or without your name it will be returned to you and it will be considered late when resubmitted.
The majority of all projects may be redone if you are unhappy with your results. You will have two weeks to redo your work. If you wish to resubmit your work please let me know as soon as you receive your grade.
Extra help will be provided after school on Mondays and Thursdays starting @ 2:20 Extended extra help hours will be available on certain days. Please let me know in class that day if you are planning to attend extra help.
